Visual Arts

Classes vary from term to term. Please check current program schedule for activities available this season.
Art Adventures
Explore 2-D and 3-D formats using a variety of materials and lots of imagination! In this fun workshop children explore their creativity through different activities – drawing, cutting, gluing, assembling, and decorating. Hands-on theme-based art projects will use a variety of materials including papier-mache, pipe cleaners, yarn, buttons, recyclables, cardboard, and others.
Beads-Mania
Working with Perler beads students design and create colorful projects using original patterns. Fun for all ages!
Cartooning & Animation
Children develop their story board, designing and drawing on paper and working out ideas that can transition to digital animation form. Students will bring their characters to life by creating flip-book animation and/or working with a special Animation App for the iPad. Characters and stories – along with music and audio recordings – will be compiled into a video project at the end of the school year. One of our most ambitious undertakings!
Collage & Construction
We will start making two-dimensional collages with paper and then move on to fabric, plastic and other materials to create three-dimensional sculptures. Students will experiment with different textures to create decorative, and functional, pieces.
Design & Printmaking
Design and make our own prints, both on fabric and on paper. Learn how repeat patterns work & how to potato-print, stencil and tie-dye. You will learn how to create your own t-shirt using one of these techniques. If you love fashion and color and pattern you’ll love this class!
Drawing & Painting
In this workshop children learn basic fine arts concepts such as texture and light, and explore different painting techniques. Some days we will get messy, some days we will draw and paint neatly. Our goal is to teach children how to manipulate the medium so they can produce interesting visual work.
Fiber Arts & Crafts
Create art works from a variety of fibers, including yarn, thread, paper, wood and plants. Learn how to knit, weave, sew, and use a variety of textiles. Materials include weaving, beads and paper-maché.  Fun projects for multiple uses!
Filmmaking Workshop
In this workshop students work together to write, act, and direct their own short films. Throughout the process children learn the technical and creative skills needed to transform their ideas into finished works. We will explore the various roles on a film set, how to direct actors and crew,  as well as the basics of screenwriting, cinematography, and editing. By the end of the term our group should have at least one short film completed.
LegoImagineers
Children are invited to build creative lego projects in a relaxed environment. A perfect way to unwind after another busy school week. Fun for all ages!
